We are not in ordinary times. Tanzanians have come from a
background of considerable control of their national economy.
But globalization and market driven forces have destroyed the
structures of our economic control, resulting into economic
reforms and privatization that have combined to create dangers
of increased marginalization of Tanzanians. The option to deny
the current forces of change is not available to Tanzanians.
Thus, these compelling socio-economic conditions now make it
necessary for Tanzanians to focus urgently into the realities of
the future so that a vision for necessary change does not
founder on the rocks of memory. That is where NICO comes in.
NICO’s solemn
mission is designed to bring about a radical enhancement of the
participation of the Tanzanian people in their national economy.
Its principal mission is to provide a vehicle for collective
ownership of economic activities by Tanzanians capable of
generating high returns on their investment. It is also an
entity that should help restore a sense of greater involvement
and participation and control by Tanzanians in their national
economy.
